Overview

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord dedicated servers run as a Windows binary. TaleWorlds provides a Linux DLL but does not officially support it for public multiplayer — see the Linux article for caveats. This guide covers a standard Windows-hosted installation.

SteamCMD App ID

The dedicated server App ID is 1863440. It supports anonymous login:

steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 1863440 +quit

Directory Structure

After installation your server root will contain:

bin\Win64_Shipping_Server\DedicatedCustomServer.Starter.exe # Server binary
Modules\Native\ # Default config files go here
Modules\Multiplayer\

Generating the Auth Token

Public servers require a server auth token issued by TaleWorlds. The token is tied to a Steam account and expires every 3 months — you must regenerate it when it expires or your server will stop appearing in the browser.

To generate a token:

  1. Launch Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord (the game client, not the server).
  2. Open Multiplayer → Host → Create Server.
  3. Click Generate Server Token.
  4. Copy the token string — it is only shown once.

Store it securely. When the token expires, repeat this process and update your startup command.

Starting the Server

The basic startup command:

DedicatedCustomServer.Starter.exe
  /dedicatedcustomserverconfigfile default.txt
  /dedicatedcustomserverauthtoken YOUR_TOKEN_HERE

Pass these as arguments to the executable. In a panel environment, set them as startup parameters in your egg or startup configuration.

Making the Server Visible

After the server process launches, it is not visible in the browser yet. You must type the following command in the server console window:

start_game

Then to begin a match:

start_mission

Or combine both steps:

start_game_and_mission

Until start_game is run, the server will not appear in the multiplayer server browser.

Post-Install Checklist

  1. Place your config .txt file in Modules\Native\.
  2. Open ports 7210 UDP, 7210 TCP, and 27015 UDP in your firewall.
  3. Start the server with your token in the startup arguments.
  4. Type start_game in the server console.
  5. Verify the server appears in the Bannerlord multiplayer browser within 2–3 minutes.
