How to Install a Conan Exiles Dedicated Server

Step-by-step guide to installing a Conan Exiles dedicated server using SteamCMD on a WISP/Pterodactyl panel.

Overview

Conan Exiles dedicated servers run as a Windows binary (ConanSandboxServer-Win64-Shipping.exe) and are installed via SteamCMD. On Linux hosts, the server runs under Wine with xvfb-run. This guide covers the full install process from the panel side.

SteamCMD App ID

The SteamCMD App ID for Conan Exiles dedicated server is 443030. Use this in your egg or startup configuration.

Directory Structure

After a successful install, the following directories will be present under your server root:

Installation via Panel

In your WISP or Pterodactyl panel, navigate to your server's startup settings and confirm:

  • SteamCMD App ID: 443030
  • Server executable path: ConanSandbox/Binaries/Win64/ConanSandboxServer-Win64-Shipping.exe

On a Linux host, the startup command must use xvfb-run and route through Wine:

xvfb-run --auto-servernum wine ConanSandbox/Binaries/Win64/ConanSandboxServer-Win64-Shipping.exe -log

Ensure your egg has Wine and xvfb-run available in the container image.

Initial Startup Arguments

Pass the following arguments on first launch to define the map and enable logging:

/Game/ConanSandbox/Maps/ConanSandbox_Terrain -log -nosteamclient -game -server -MultiHome=0.0.0.0 -Port=7777 -QueryPort=27015 -RconPort=25575

The -log flag writes output to ConanSandbox/Saved/Logs/, which is critical for debugging startup failures.

Post-Install Steps

  1. Start the server once to generate default config files under ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/.
  2. Stop the server.
  3. Edit Engine.ini, Game.ini, and ServerSettings.ini as needed before restarting.
  4. Set an AdminPassword in ServerSettings.ini before exposing the server publicly.

Verifying the Install

After the server starts, query it on UDP port 27015 using a tool like gamedig or check the Steam server browser. You should see your server listed within 2–3 minutes of a clean start.

If the server fails to appear, check ConanSandbox/Saved/Logs/ConanSandbox.log for errors. Common issues include missing Visual C++ Redistributables in the Wine prefix and port conflicts.

Wine Prefix Notes

If your panel uses a Wine prefix, ensure it is initialized and has the required VC++ runtimes installed. The Pterodactyl Conan egg typically handles this in the install script using winetricks or pre-staged prefix archives. If you manage the prefix manually:
