CS2 Custom and Workshop Maps
Load Steam Workshop maps on your CS2 server. Find the Workshop ID, change maps via server console commands, use collections for a full rotation, and troubleshoot maps that fail to download.
Finding a Workshop Map's ID
- Open the CS2 Workshop on Steam
- Find the map you want
- Look at the URL:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=XXXXXXXXXX - The number after
?id=is the Workshop ID
Loading a Single Workshop Map
In the server console (via the panel or RCON), run:
host_workshop_map WORKSHOP_ID
Example:
host_workshop_map 3121800508
The server will download the map from Steam and switch to it. This may take a minute on first load.
Note: Valve has not enabled native RCON in CS2. Use the panel's Server Console or install Fake RCON to run these commands remotely.
Listing Workshop Maps on the Server
To see which workshop maps are already downloaded on your server:
ds_workshop_listmaps
Changing to an Already-Downloaded Workshop Map
ds_workshop_changelevel WORKSHOP_ID
This is faster than host_workshop_map when the map is already cached.
Using a Workshop Collection (Map Rotation)
A Workshop Collection lets you rotate through multiple custom maps automatically.
- Create a collection on Steam Workshop (or use an existing one) — get the collection ID from its URL (
?id=XXXXXXXXXX) - Pass the collection ID to your server via the
+host_workshop_collection COLLECTION_IDlaunch argument
AMP: Add it in Configuration → Additional Arguments.
WISP / Pterodactyl: Add it to the Startup Parameters field.
- Restart the server — it downloads all maps in the collection on startup
Use normal map-change commands (changelevel, ds_workshop_changelevel) to cycle through them.
Troubleshooting
Map fails to download
- Verify the Workshop ID is correct
- Make sure the server has an internet connection (check panel for network errors)
- Confirm the map is not marked as a subscriber-only or removed from the Workshop
- After switching server location, Workshop maps re-download — wait for the server to fully start
Map loads but crashes the server
- The map may be outdated and incompatible with the current CS2 build
- Check the Workshop page for recent update notes or user complaints
"Missing map" error when players join
- Players need the map too — either through the Workshop (Steam auto-downloads it) or a
sv_allowupload 1FastDL setup - Most Workshop maps auto-subscribe clients when the server sends the Workshop ID
