Installing EXILED Plugins on an SCP:SL Server

Install the EXILED plugin framework on an SCP:SL server and add community plugins. Covers EXILED installation, plugin .dll placement, config generation, and popular plugins.

Installing EXILED Plugins on SCP:SL

EXILED (Extensible Yet Integrated Loader of External Dependencies) is the primary plugin framework for SCP:SL servers. It enables custom gameplay, admin tools, and server management plugins.

Installing EXILED

EXILED provides an installer script. Stop your server before installing.

./install.sh

The installer places EXILED's core files at:

~/.config/EXILED/
  Plugins/          ← Place your plugin .dll files here
  Configs/          ← Plugin configs are generated here on first load
  Translations/     ← Plugin translation files

Installing Plugins

Plugins are distributed as .dll files. After downloading a plugin:

cp YourPlugin.dll ~/.config/EXILED/Plugins/

Restart the server. EXILED loads all .dll files from the Plugins/ directory on startup and generates default config files in Configs/.

Plugin Configuration

After a plugin is loaded for the first time, its config file appears at:

~/.config/EXILED/Configs/[PORT]-config.yml

All installed plugins share a single config file per port, organized by plugin name. Edit this file to customize plugin behavior, then restart the server.

Updating EXILED

When SCP:SL updates, EXILED typically needs to be updated to match. Run the installer again:

./install.sh

Then update individual plugin .dll files from their respective release pages.

Troubleshooting Plugins

Plugin not loading:

  • Confirm the .dll is in ~/.config/EXILED/Plugins/ (not a subdirectory)
  • Check the server console/log for EXILED error output on startup
  • Ensure the plugin version is compatible with the installed EXILED version

Server crashes after adding a plugin: Remove the plugin .dll and restart to confirm it's the cause. Check the plugin's GitHub issues for known conflicts.

Config not appearing: The config generates on first load. If the server crashed before fully loading, the config may not be there — fix the crash first, then restart.

EXILED vs Vanilla

Running EXILED modifies server behavior. Consider:

  • Some plugins may affect Northwood's server verification requirements
  • EXILED itself is well-supported and widely used in the community
  • Vanilla players connecting to EXILED servers do not need to install anything client-side
