Getting Your SCP:SL Server Listed Publicly
SCP:SL servers are not listed publicly without Northwood Studios verification. Learn the verification process, what's required, and how to use Direct Connect while waiting.
Getting Your SCP:SL Server Listed Publicly
SCP: Secret Laboratory has a unique requirement compared to most games: servers are not listed in the public server browser by default. To appear in the browser, your server must be verified by Northwood Studios.
Why Verification Is Required
Northwood uses server verification to:
- Maintain server quality standards for new players
- Prevent malicious servers from appearing in the browser
- Ensure listed servers follow the game's community guidelines
How to Join Before Verification
While waiting for verification (or if you choose not to apply), players can still connect via Direct Connect:
- In SCP:SL main menu, click Direct Connect (or press the IP connect button)
- Enter your server's IP address and port (default
7777) - Click Connect
Share your server's IP and port with your community directly.
Applying for Verification
- Join the Northwood Studios Discord — discord.gg/northwood
- Navigate to the #server-verification channel
- Follow the posted instructions and submit your server details:
- Server name
- Server IP and port
- Region
- Expected player count / community description
- Confirmation that you agree to Northwood's Server Rules
- A Northwood staff member will review your application
Requirements typically include:
- A stable, consistently online server
- Server rules posted via the Pastebin info system (
serverinfo_pastebin_id) - Compliance with Northwood's Server Rules (no cheats, no exploits, appropriate content)
Server Rules Compliance
Ensure your server complies with Northwood's official Server Rules before applying. Key points:
- No cheats, hacks, or unauthorized modifications that give unfair advantages
- No discriminatory content, slurs, or harassment
- Admins must be accessible and responsive
- Server description must be accurate
Full rules are available in the Northwood Discord and the in-game server listing.
After Verification
Once verified, your server appears in the public browser. Northwood may revoke verification if the server violates rules or goes offline for extended periods.
Alternative: Private/Community Servers
If public listing isn't a goal, Direct Connect works well for:
- Private friend groups
- Community servers shared via Discord
- Testing and development servers
There are no limitations on gameplay for unverified servers — the only difference is discoverability.
