SCUM Dedicated Server Setup

SCUM's dedicated server binary (SCUMServer.exe) is Windows-native. Linux hosting is possible via Wine 11 — see the separate Linux/Wine guide.

System Requirements

Component Minimum Recommended
OS Windows Server 2016+ Windows Server 2022
CPU Quad-core, 3.0 GHz 8-core, 3.5 GHz+
RAM 8 GB 16–32 GB
Disk 25 GB (SSD preferred) 50 GB NVMe SSD
Network 20 Mbps upload 100 Mbps upload

Player count significantly affects RAM and CPU usage. A 64-player server typically needs 12–16 GB RAM.

Installing via SteamCMD

  1. Download SteamCMD and extract it.
  2. Run steamcmd.exe and log in anonymously:
    login anonymous

  3. Set an install directory:
    force_install_dir C:\SCUM_Server

  4. Install the SCUM Dedicated Server app:
    app_update 3792580 validate
    quit

SteamCMD downloads all required server files. The process takes several minutes depending on your connection.

First Launch

The server executable is located directly in the install folder:

C:\SCUM_Server\SCUMServer.exe

Start it with the -log flag and specify the game port:

SCUMServer.exe -log -port=7777

On first run, SCUM generates the full directory structure under:

C:\SCUM_Server\SCUM\Saved\

This includes the Config\WindowsServer\ folder where all configuration files live.

Creating a Startup Batch File

Create StartServer.bat in C:\SCUM_Server\:

@echo off
:start
SCUMServer.exe -log -port=7777 -MaxPlayers=64
timeout /t 5
goto start

The :start loop auto-restarts the server if it crashes or shuts down. Adjust -MaxPlayers to your desired player cap (maximum 100 in SCUM v1.0+).

Connecting via Steam

Once the server is running and your firewall/router ports are open (7777–7779 UDP), it will appear in the SCUM in-game server browser within a few minutes. You can also connect directly using:

<server-ip>:7777

Players who cannot find the server by name can use the Direct Connect option in the in-game browser.

Updating the Server

Shut down the server before updating:

force_install_dir C:\SCUM_Server
login anonymous
app_update 3792580 validate
quit
