SCUM Server Port Forwarding
SCUM uses three consecutive UDP ports for its dedicated server. All three must be open for the server to appear in the in-game browser and accept player connections.
Required Ports
| Port | Protocol | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 7777 | UDP | Game port — players connect here |
| 7778 | UDP | Additional game traffic |
| 7779 | UDP | Steam query / server browser |
If you start the server on a non-default port (e.g., -port=7800), the three ports become 7800, 7801, and 7802. Always open the base port and the two ports immediately above it.
RCON (if enabled) uses a separate TCP port configured in ServerSettings.ini — the default is 9999.
Windows Firewall Rules
Open a Command Prompt or PowerShell as Administrator:
# Game ports (inbound UDP)
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="SCUM Server UDP" dir=in action=allow protocol=UDP localport=7777-7779
# RCON (optional)
netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="SCUM RCON" dir=in action=allow protocol=TCP localport=9999
Router / NAT Port Forwarding
In your router admin panel, add UDP port-forwarding rules pointing to the private LAN IP of your server machine:
| External Port | Internal Port | Protocol | Destination |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7777 | 7777 | UDP | Server LAN IP |
| 7778 | 7778 | UDP | Server LAN IP |
| 7779 | 7779 | UDP | Server LAN IP |
| 9999 | 9999 | TCP | Server LAN IP (RCON only) |
Assign a static LAN IP to the server machine so these rules do not break after a router reboot.
Hosting Provider / Dedicated Server
If you are renting a VPS or dedicated server, configure the firewall in your provider's control panel rather than a home router. Most providers use ufw or iptables on Linux, or a web-based security group on cloud platforms.
Example ufw rules:
sudo ufw allow 7777:7779/udp
sudo ufw allow 9999/tcp # RCON only
sudo ufw reload
Verifying the Ports Are Open
Use https://canyouseeme.org or a UDP port checker to confirm port 7777 is reachable from outside your network while the server is running. Alternatively, ask a friend to try a direct connection from a different network.
If the server runs but does not appear in the browser after 5–10 minutes, confirm:
- Port 7779 (the Steam query port) is open
- No software firewall (Windows Defender, antivirus) is blocking the process
- Your router's NAT is pointing to the correct internal IP address
