Installing Mods on a Squad Server
Add Steam Workshop mods to your Squad server by placing mod IDs in the Mods section of Server.cfg or using the Squad mod menu. Players without the mod are prompted to download it on connect.
Squad Server Mods
Squad supports mods via the Steam Workshop. Server-side mods are downloaded by the server on startup and players are prompted to download them when they connect.
Finding Mod IDs
- Go to the Squad Steam Workshop
- Browse to the mod you want
- The mod ID is in the URL:
steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=XXXXXXXXX - Copy that numeric ID
Adding Mods to the Server
Edit SquadGame/ServerConfig/Server.cfg and add a Mods= entry for each mod:
ServerName=My Modded Squad Server
MaxPlayers=80
Mods=2753650959
Mods=3193475024
One Mods= line per Workshop ID. The server downloads mods automatically on the next startup (requires outbound internet on port 443).
Adding Modded Layers to Rotation
Once a map/layer mod is installed, add its layers to LayerRotation.cfg:
Forts_AlBasrah
Forts_Falluja
AlBasrah_AAS_v1
Modded layer names are defined by the mod creator — check the mod's Workshop page for the correct layer names.
Player Experience
- Players connecting to a modded server who don't have the mod are shown a download prompt
- The download goes through Steam automatically
- Required mods are listed on the server browser entry
Verifying Mods Loaded
Check the server log on startup:
journalctl -u squad -n 100 | grep -i mod
# or
tail -f /home/steam/squad/SquadGame/Saved/Logs/SquadGame.log | grep -i mod
Look for download confirmations or errors.
Troubleshooting Mods
Server not downloading the mod:
- Verify the mod ID is correct (re-check the Workshop URL)
- Ensure the server has outbound access on port 443
- Check the log for HTTP errors
Players can't connect after adding a mod:
- The mod may be incompatible with the current Squad version
- Remove the
Mods=entry, restart, and check the Workshop page for compatibility notes
Modded layers not appearing:
- Confirm the mod is listed under
Mods=in Server.cfg - Confirm the layer name exactly matches the mod's documented layer names (case-sensitive)
