How to Set Up a Teeworlds Dedicated Server
Download the Teeworlds server binary from Steam (AppID 380840) or downloads.teeworlds.com, create autoexec.cfg, and run teeworlds_srv to host your first server.
Teeworlds Dedicated Server Setup
Teeworlds is a free, open-source 2D shooter. The dedicated server binary (teeworlds_srv) is included with the game download and requires no additional runtime or dependencies on Windows.
Step 1 — Download the Server Files
Option A — Steam:
- Install Teeworlds (AppID 380840) via Steam
- The
teeworlds_srvexecutable is included in the installation directory
Option B — Direct download:
Go to downloads.teeworlds.com and download the archive for your platform (e.g. teeworlds-0.7.5-win64.zip or teeworlds-0.7.5-linux_x86_64.tar.gz). Extract it to a folder of your choice.
Step 2 — Create autoexec.cfg
In the same directory as teeworlds_srv, create a file named autoexec.cfg.
Minimum working configuration:
sv_name My Teeworlds Server
sv_port 8303
sv_max_clients 12
sv_map dm1
sv_gametype dm
sv_register 1
sv_rcon_password changeme
Config syntax is variable value — no equals signs, no quotes needed for single words.
Step 3 — Start the Server
Windows:
teeworlds_srv.exe
Linux:
./teeworlds_srv
The server reads autoexec.cfg automatically on startup. You should see output like:
[server]: server name is 'My Teeworlds Server'
[server]: server is running on port 8303
[server]: registered on master server
Step 4 — Confirm Public Listing
If sv_register 1 is set and UDP 8303 is forwarded, your server will appear in the in-game server browser under Play → Internet within a few minutes.
To keep it LAN-only, set sv_register 0.
Step 5 — Specify a Custom Config File
If you want to run multiple servers with different configs, use the -f flag:
./teeworlds_srv -f ctf_server.cfg
Minimum Hardware
| Resource | Minimum |
|---|---|
| CPU | 1 core |
| RAM | 128 MB |
| Storage | 100 MB |
| Port | 8303 UDP |
