Setting the Starting Map
sv_map dm1
This is the map that loads when the server starts. After each rotation cycle, the server returns to the beginning of sv_maprotation.
Configuring Map Rotation
sv_maprotation takes a space-separated list of maps. The server advances to the next map after sv_rounds_per_map rounds are completed.
DM rotation example:
sv_maprotation dm1 dm2 dm6 dm7
sv_rounds_per_map 3
CTF rotation example:
sv_gametype ctf
sv_map ctf5
sv_maprotation ctf5 ctf1 ctf2 ctf4
sv_rounds_per_map 2
If sv_maprotation is blank, the server replays sv_map indefinitely.
Switching Maps Immediately
From the server console or via RCON:
change_map dm2
This skips to the specified map immediately without waiting for the round to end.
Custom Maps
- Get a
.mapfile (from community sources or the Teeworlds editor) - Place it in
data/maps/relative to the server executable:
teeworlds/
└── data/
└── maps/
└── my_custom_map.map
- Reference it in your config exactly as the filename without the
.mapextension:
sv_map my_custom_map
Map names are case-sensitive on Linux.
Players do not need to download the map separately — the server sends the map file to connecting clients automatically.
Mixed-Mode Rotation Caveat
Map rotation within a single server instance is intended for one game mode. To rotate CTF and DM maps on the same server would require changing sv_gametype via votes or RCON for each map — it is generally cleaner to run separate server instances per mode.
