How to Install and Configure Valheim Plus on Your Server

Valheim Plus is the most popular Valheim server mod. Here's how to install it and configure the key settings in valheim_plus.cfg.

What Valheim Plus Is

Valheim Plus (V+) is a server-side mod that overrides and extends a huge range of gameplay settings — carry weight, processing speed, build range, map sharing, and much more. It's the most widely used Valheim mod and works through BepInEx.

Prerequisites

BepInEx must be installed on your server before V+ will work. If you haven't done that yet, set it up first.

V+ is incompatible with the -crossplay flag. If your server runs with crossplay enabled, V+ (and all BepInEx mods) won't load.

Getting the Right Build

Download Valheim Plus from the official GitHub or Nexus Mods. Make sure you grab the server build, not the client-only build. The server build includes the files needed for server-side installation.

Installation

  1. Stop your server.
  2. Extract the downloaded archive.
  3. Upload the contents of the BepInEx/plugins/ folder from the archive to your server's BepInEx/plugins/ directory.
  4. Start the server and check the logs — you should see V+ loading in the BepInEx output.

The config file will be generated on first run at:

BepInEx/config/valheim_plus.cfg

Configuring valheim_plus.cfg

Open the config file and you'll see it's divided into sections. Each feature is disabled by default — set enabled = true under a section to activate it. Here are the most commonly used ones:

[Player]

Controls individual player stats server-wide.

[Player]
enabled = true
baseMaximumWeight = 450       ; default carry weight
baseMegingjordBuff = 300      ; belt carry bonus
baseAutoPickUpRange = 3       ; auto-pickup radius
disableCameraShake = false
experienceGainedNotifier = true

[Server]

[Server]
enabled = true
maxPlayers = 20               ; override the default 10-player cap
disableServerPassword = false
enforceMod = true ; require clients to also run V+
dataRate = 3                  ; network data rate in MB/s

[Building]

[Building]
enabled = true
noInvalidPlacementRestriction = false
noWeatherDamage = false
maximumPlacementDistance = 8  ; default is ~5

[Fermenter], [Kiln], [Furnace]

Each section lets you set processing speed multipliers and output multipliers independently:

[Fermenter]
enabled = true
fermenterDuration = 1800      ; seconds, default 2400
fermenterItemsProduced = 6    ; default 4

[Map]

[Map]
enabled = true
shareMapProgression = true ; all players share explored map
exploreRadius = 100

Client-Side Requirement

V+ syncs its configuration to connected clients automatically — clients do not need to manually configure their V+ install. They just need V+ installed. The server's config values are what matter.
