Step-by-step checklists for backing up and migrating Icarus prospect saves. Select your scenario below — and read the filename rules carefully, since breaking them causes silent save corruption with no error message.

NEVER rename a live prospect .json file

Renaming a prospect file that the server has loaded causes unrecoverable save corruption. Always copy the file first, then rename the copy. The original filename must remain untouched while the server is running.

Locate your prospect files: Icarus\Saved\PlayerData\DedicatedServer\Prospects\ Note your save name — it is the filename without .json (e.g. MySave.json → save name is MySave) Copy the .json file to a safe location (same folder, different drive, or cloud) Recommended naming for backups: SaveName_YYYYMMDD.json (e.g. MySave_20260601.json) Verify LastProspectName in ServerSettings.ini matches your save filename exactly (case-sensitive) Never rename the live prospect file — use copy+rename for backups only
