Minecraft Resource Pack Setup Helper
Generate the exact server.properties lines for a server-forced resource pack. Enter your pack URL and SHA-1 hash — then use the troubleshooting checklist if anything goes wrong.
Pack Configuration
Must be a direct download link — no redirect pages (Dropbox "?dl=0" links won't work)
Compute with: sha1sum yourpack.zip (Linux) or online SHA-1 calculator
Require resource pack
Kicks players who decline (requires 1.17+ client)
server.properties Block
resource-pack= resource-pack-sha1= require-resource-pack=false
Paste these lines into your server.properties file in the server root. Restart the server for changes to take effect.
pack_format Reference
The pack_format in your pack's pack.mcmeta must match (or be compatible with) your server version.
| Minecraft Version | pack_format |
|---|---|
| 1.20 | 15 |
| 1.20.2 | 18 |
| 1.20.4 | 22 |
| 1.21 | 34 |
| 1.21.4 | 46 |
Troubleshooting Checklist
- 1.
URL must return the ZIP directly — no redirect pages. Dropbox links need
?dl=1, Google Drive direct links don't work. Use a dedicated file host or your server's web root. - 2. Re-zipping changes the hash — always recompute the SHA-1 after any modification to the pack. Even adding a single file invalidates the old hash.
- 3. pack_format must match your server version — clients will silently ignore packs with incompatible format numbers. See the table above.
- 4. Max pack size: 250 MB hard client limit — recommend keeping under 100 MB for acceptable download speeds. Players on slow connections will time out on larger packs.
- 5.
pack.mcmeta must be at the ZIP root — not inside a subfolder. Opening the ZIP should show
pack.mcmetaandassets/at the top level.
