MTA:SA Serial Authorization Manager

MTA:SA's serial authorization system ties account logins to hardware fingerprints — preventing account sharing and unauthorized admin access. Configure it here and get your ready-to-paste mtaserver.conf block.

How Serial Authorization Works

1

When a player logs into an account in a protected group, their hardware serial is registered with that account.

2

If they log in from a different computer (different serial), they are blocked until an admin manually approves the new serial.

3

Admins approve or deny serial requests via the HTTP serial approval page or the authserial console commands.

4

This prevents account sharing and protects admin accounts from being accessed on unauthorized computers.

What is a serial? A serial is a 32-character uppercase alphanumeric string unique to each computer's hardware configuration. Get a player's serial with whois <playername> in the server console, or getPlayerSerial(thePlayer) in Lua.

⚠️

Plan for emergency access

Enabling serial auth for Admin accounts prevents admins from logging in from a new computer without approval. Make sure at least one admin can approve new serials, or have a plan for emergency DB access if all admin serials are lost.

Configuration

Comma-separated list of ACL group names that require serial authorization on login. Default: Admin.

Enable HTTP Serial Approval Page

Admins can approve/reject new serials via a web interface on your HTTP port.

Comma-separated IPs or CIDR ranges that bypass the serial check. Useful for LAN admin workstations.

mtaserver.conf Block

<!-- Serial Authorization -->
<auth_serial_groups>Admin</auth_serial_groups>
<auth_serial_http>true</auth_serial_http>

Paste these lines inside your <config> block in mtaserver.conf.

Console Commands Reference

authserial <account> list

List all hardware serials registered to an account.

authserial <account> removelast

Remove the most recently added serial from an account (useful when admin gets a new computer).

authserial <account> httppass <password>

Set the HTTP approval password for this account's serial approval page.
