Configure your server's grid naming convention to keep the world organised and reduce admin cleanup burden. Export a Discord/wiki policy document and a ServerMessages.cfg reminder block.

How to Rename a Grid In-Game

1. Open the Terminal (K) on your grid.
2. Go to the Info tab.
3. Click the grid name field at the top and type your new name.
Alternative: Open inventory (I) → click ship name text field → rename. Works on small grids too.

Naming Convention

Required Prefix Format

Deletion Grace Period (days inactive)

Unnamed grids deleted after this many days

Require antenna broadcasting grid name (all named ships)

Grid Type Suffixes

Configure the suffix appended to each grid type name. Leave blank to omit.

HomeBase Flag (Protected Bases)

Bases designated as the faction's protected home use a special suffix.

Suffix: Example: [WOLF]-HomeBase

All grids must be renamed from the default 'Large Grid XXXX' or 'Small Grid XXXX'.

TYPE SUFFIXES:
  Large Grid Ship             -S

  Station / Base              -BASE
  Remote-Controlled Drone     -DRONE
  Mining Ship                 -MINER

HOMEBASE FLAG:
  Faction home bases must include the 'HomeBase' suffix.
  Example: [WOLF]-HomeBase

ANTENNA REQUIREMENT:
  All named ships must have an active antenna broadcasting the grid name.

DELETION POLICY:
  Unnamed grids will be deleted after 7 days of inactivity.
  Admins may run !cleanup list before deletion — you will be warned.

Torch Cleanup Command Reference

Use on Torch-powered servers to automatically remove unnamed grids:

!cleanup delete notype noownership

Deletes grids with no type set and no owner. Always run !cleanup list first to preview what will be deleted.
