Getting Started
Survive your first nights, gather starter resources, and build a base. This phase ends when you have flint gear and are ready to hunt Eikthyr.
Preparation Checklist
0 / 10- Punch trees to collect Wood; pick up Stones and Flint from the ground
- Craft a Hammer and place a Workbench (requires 10 Wood, 10 Flint, 2 Stone, 4 Coal)
- Build a small shelter with walls and a thatched roof to avoid the 'Wet' debuff
- Craft a Bed inside your shelter and sleep to set your spawn point
- Craft a Flint axe, Flint knife, and Flint spear at the Workbench
- Craft a Crude bow and 20 Flint arrows for ranged combat and deer hunting
- Hunt deer and collect Deer hide — craft Leather pants and a Rag tunic
- Eat three foods before fights: Mushroom, Raspberry, and Grilled Neck Tail each add HP
- Craft a Wood shield for parrying — blocking saves stamina vs. dodging
- Locate a Vegvisir runestone in the Meadows (often near stone ruins) to mark Eikthyr's altar
Fight Strategy
- › No boss fight in this phase — focus entirely on gathering and building.
- › Build near a meadows coastline if possible for easy fishing and Tin access later.
- › Sleep every night early on; the rested bonus (+25% HP/stamina regen) is a major power boost.
- › Comfort increases rested bonus duration. Add a chair, campfire, and torch inside your base.
- › Kill Greydwarves for Resin (fire arrows later) and Greylings for quick early XP.
About this guide
This guide covers the core Valheim boss progression through all five Forsaken. Each phase's checklist reflects what you should have before you attempt that boss — not just to survive the fight, but to win comfortably.
Checklist state is saved only in your current browser session. Refreshing the page resets your checkboxes, so use it as an active in-session reference rather than a long-term tracker.
Content reflects vanilla Valheim (Ashlands update era). Modded servers, difficulty mods, or the Mistlands and Ashlands biomes (post-Yagluth) are beyond this guide's scope.
Run your own Valheim server.
Rent a private Valheim server on real hardware — full control-panel access, your mods, your configs, your rules. It's your server; run it your way.
Don't want to run it yourself? Our managed services & consulting team will set it up and keep it running for you — game servers, Windows, Linux, and cloud, from 10+ years of MSP work.
