VS Temporal Stability Reference & Planner
Temporal stability is one of Vintage Story's most confusing mechanics for new players. This page covers drain and regen rates, storm intensities, and includes a countdown estimator based on your server's worldconfig settings.
Stability Drain Rates
Safe surface area
Very slow drain — ~1% per 4 seconds
Underground / dark
Faster drain — ~1% per 7–10 seconds
Near temporal rift
Rapid drain — ~3% per second
Unstable region
Moderate drain — ~1% per 7.5 seconds
Stability Restoration
Stable area regen
Gradual recovery — ~1% per 4 seconds
Temporal gear
+30% instant stability restoration
Defeating drifters
Small stability gains per kill
Resonance archive
Moderate stability restoration
Temporal Storm Intensities
Light Storm
Minor drifter swarms, mild effects
Stability floor: 60%
Medium Storm
Significant drifters, moderate disruption
Stability floor: 40%
Heavy Storm
Overwhelming drifters, near-zero stability floor
Stability floor: 5%
Warning system: First notice 8 in-game hours ahead. Imminent warning 29 in-game minutes before storm.
At 0% stability: The Rust World appears — increasingly damaging and disorienting effects.
Duration: 2.4 – 4.8 real-time hours per storm (before the tempstormDurationMul multiplier).
Storm Countdown Estimator
Estimated Days Until Next Storm
10 – 15 in-game days
Based on sometimes frequency from day 1.
Storms occur on a random cycle — this is a range estimate. Actual timing varies per world seed.
