How to Connect to Your Clone Hero Server

Join a Clone Hero dedicated server in a few steps — find the multiplayer menu, enter the server IP and port, and handle passwords if the server requires one.

Finding the Multiplayer Menu

From the Clone Hero main menu, navigate to Multiplayer → Online Play. You'll see connection fields for the server IP address and port.

Entering the Server Address

Fill in the fields:

  • IP address — your server's public IP address (find this in your DustBowl.Games control panel)
  • Port — 14242 by default; if your server runs on a different port, use that instead

Hit Connect. Clone Hero will attempt to reach the server.

Entering a Password

If the server is password-protected, Clone Hero prompts you for the password after you hit Connect. Type it exactly — passwords are alphanumeric and underscore only, no spaces or special characters.

If you get an "incorrect password" error, double-check with the server owner. There's no way to recover or bypass a forgotten server password — the owner would need to change it and restart the server.

What Port to Use

The default Clone Hero server port is UDP 14242. If you're unsure whether the server uses the default, ask the server owner. They can check their startup parameters in the DustBowl.Games control panel.

Troubleshooting a Failed Connection

If the connection times out or fails:

  1. Confirm the server is actually running — check the control panel
  2. Verify you have the correct IP and port
  3. Make sure UDP 14242 (or the server's custom port) is open — see How to Open the Clone Hero Server Port
  4. Check that the server isn't set to a different port with -p in its startup arguments
