Setting Up Server Admin and Console Commands
How to configure the admin password, claim admin in-game, and use the server console for admin commands.
Setting the Admin Password
The admin password is defined in ServerSettings.ini:
ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ServerSettings.ini
Add or edit the following line under [ServerSettings]:
[ServerSettings]
AdminPassword=YourSecurePasswordHere
Password restrictions: avoid the characters &, /, =, and [. These can break INI parsing and cause the password to be read incorrectly, preventing admin login.
Stop the server before editing this file. Restart after saving.
Claiming Admin In-Game (GUI Method)
Once the server is running and you have connected as a player:
- Press
Escto open the menu. - Navigate to Settings → Server Settings.
- Locate the Admin Password field at the bottom.
- Enter your admin password and click Make Me Admin.
Admin status is not persistent across sessions by default — you must re-authenticate after each reconnect unless the server is configured to remember session tokens.
Claiming Admin In-Game (Console Method)
Open the in-game console by pressing the backtick key:
`
Type the following command and press Enter:
MakeMeAdmin YourSecurePasswordHere
To verify admin status, type:
ToggleDebugHUD
If the HUD appears, admin is active.
Revoking Admin
To revoke your own admin session via console:
MakeMeNormal
This is useful before logging off to avoid leaving an active admin session.
Common Admin Console Commands
These commands require active admin status:
TeleportPlayer <SteamID> # Teleport a player to your location
BanPlayer <SteamID> # Ban a player by Steam ID
KickPlayer <SteamID> # Kick a player from the server
DestroyTarget # Destroy the object/NPC you are looking at
God # Toggle god mode for your character
Ghost # Toggle no-clip flight
Steam IDs can be found in the server log (ConanSandbox/Saved/Logs/ConanSandbox.log) or via the in-game player list when admin is active.
Admin Permissions and Security
Admin access in Conan Exiles grants full in-game authority including spawning items, teleporting players, and destroying structures. Treat the admin password as a privileged credential:
- Use a unique password not shared with server access credentials.
- Rotate the password if you remove an admin from your team.
- Do not share the admin password with regular players.
For automated administration tasks, prefer RCON over sharing the in-game password. See the RCON setup article for configuration details.
