Server Password and Access Control

Access Control Architecture

Conan Exiles uses two separate password mechanisms to govern access and administrative privileges:

Admin Password	AdminPassword	Grants in-game console and cheat rights	Settings -> Server Settings -> Make Me Admin

Setting a Server Join Password

To make your server private or restrict access to whitelist members:

1. Log in to DustBowl Warden and stop the server.
2. In the Warden File Manager, open ConanSandbox/Saved/Config/WindowsServer/ServerSettings.ini.
3. Locate ServerPassword under [ServerSettings]:

ServerPassword=MyPrivateCommunityPassword2026

4. Save the file and restart the server.

When players attempt to connect via the server browser or direct connect, Conan Exiles prompts them for this password before loading the world.

Removing the Password (Making Public)

To make your server public again, clear the value:

Character Restrictions for Passwords

Unreal Engine INI parsing interprets several characters as delimiters or section breaks. Avoid these characters in both ServerPassword and AdminPassword:

• = (assignment delimiter)
• [ and ] (section headers)
• " (string quote delimiter)
• ; (comment indicator)
• & and / (URL and parameter separators)

Safe characters include uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, hyphens (-), underscores (_), and dots (.).

Whitelisting in Conan Exiles

Vanilla Conan Exiles does not provide a native whitelist file (such as a whitelist.txt). To restrict access on a private or roleplay server:

1. Join Password Method: Set a strong ServerPassword and distribute it only to approved community members via Discord or your application portal.
2. Third-Party Mods (Pippi): Install the Pippi administrative mod (*Pippi.pak in modlist.txt), which includes built-in SteamID whitelist management and automated member gating.
3. Clan Reservation: Use clan management rules to limit unauthorized players from building or acquiring territory.
