How to Set Up Admin Access on Your DayZ Server
Add your Steam64 ID to admins.txt, set your admin password in serverDZ.cfg, and learn the in-game commands you need to manage your server.
Overview
DayZ admin access is a two-part setup: you need an admin password in serverDZ.cfg and your Steam64 ID in admins.txt. Miss either one and it won't work. Once you're in, you get a set of in-game commands for managing players.
Step 1 — Set Your Admin Password
Open serverDZ.cfg and make sure this line exists with a strong password:
passwordAdmin = "YourSecretPassword";
Save the file. This is the password you'll type in-game to authenticate as admin.
Step 2 — Find Your Steam64 ID
Your Steam64 ID is a 17-digit number that uniquely identifies your Steam account. The easiest ways to find it:
- steamid.io — go to steamid.io, paste your Steam profile URL, and grab the
steamID64value. - Steam profile URL — if your profile URL ends in a number (e.g.
https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198012345678), that number is your Steam64 ID. - SteamDB — search your username on steamdb.info and it'll show your Steam64.
Your Steam64 ID looks like this: 76561198012345678
Step 3 — Add Your ID to admins.txt
Open admins.txt in your server's profile directory (usually profiles/ or the directory your -profiles= parameter points to). Add one Steam64 ID per line:
76561198012345678
76561198087654321
Save the file. You can add as many admins as you need.
Step 4 — Restart the Server
The server reads admins.txt on startup. Restart your server after saving the file for changes to take effect.
Logging In as Admin In-Game
Once you're connected to the server:
- Press
~(tilde) orInsertto open the admin console — it varies by keyboard layout. - Type the login command:
#login YourSecretPassword
If the password matches, you'll see a confirmation message. You're now admin for this session. You'll need to log in again after each reconnect.
