Learn how to edit serverDZ.cfg to set your server name, password, player slots, time settings, and more — with a minimal working config example.

DayZconfigurationserverDZ.cfgserver settings

Overview

The heart of your DayZ server setup is serverDZ.cfg. This file controls everything from your server's public name to how fast time passes in-game. It lives in your server's root directory (or wherever your -config= launch parameter points). Open it with the file manager, edit it, save it, then restart the server for changes to take effect.

Key Fields

password string Join password (leave empty for public)

Minimal Working Config

hostname = "My DayZ Server";
password = "";
passwordAdmin = "changeme123";
maxPlayers = 60;
verifySignatures = 2;
disableVoN = 0;
vonCodecQuality = 8;
serverTime = "2023/1/1/12/00";
serverTimePersistent = 0;
timeAcceleration = 12.0;
nightTimeAcceleration = 4.0;
guaranteedUpdates = 1;
loginQueueMaxPlayers = 500;
loginQueueConcurrentPlayers = 5;

Paste this into your serverDZ.cfg, swap in your own values, and you're ready to go.

Tips

  • Hostname — make it descriptive. Players search by name, so include your community tag and any key features (e.g. "[PVE] Chernarus+ | Vanilla+ | EU").
  • verifySignatures = 2 — required if you're running mods. 0 lets anyone with any files join, which is a cheat vector.
  • Don't leave passwordAdmin blank — even if you never use admin commands, an empty password is a security hole.
  • Always stop the server before saving config changes to avoid write conflicts, then start it back up.
