Installing Your HogWarp Dedicated Server
Learn how to download, install, and launch a HogWarp dedicated server on Linux using Wine.
Installing Your HogWarp Dedicated Server
HogWarp is a multiplayer mod for Hogwarts Legacy that runs a standalone dedicated server binary. On Linux (which DustBowl.Games uses for all game servers), it runs through Wine with a .NET 7 runtime dependency.
Requirements
Before you begin, make sure your server has:
- At least 250 MB RAM allocated (1 GB or more is recommended)
- At least 1.5 GB of storage for the server files
- Wine installed on the host
- Port 11778 open on both TCP and UDP
- A valid HogWarp API key (covered in a separate article)
Step 1: Download the Server Files
HogWarp server files are distributed directly via GitHub releases — there is no Steam or SteamCMD involved.
- Go to the HogWarp releases page
- Download the latest
HogWarpServerarchive for Windows (the.zipcontainingHogWarpServer.exe) - Extract the files into your server directory (e.g.
/home/container/)
Step 2: Install the Pterodactyl Egg (DustBowl.Games Customers)
If you are hosting with DustBowl.Games, your server panel already handles Wine setup. The official Pterodactyl egg for HogWarp is available at:
https://eggs.pterodactyl.io/egg/games-hogwarp/
Import this egg through the admin panel and create a new server using it. The egg configures Wine and the required startup environment automatically.
Step 3: Install .NET 7 in the Wine Prefix
HogWarp requires .NET 7 inside the Wine prefix. If you are setting this up manually, install it with Winetricks:
winetricks dotnet7
This must be run inside the same Wine prefix that will run HogWarpServer.exe. If you skip this step, the server will crash at launch with a .NET runtime error.
Step 4: Set the API Key
The server requires an API_KEY environment variable set before launch. See Setting Up Your HogWarp API Key for full instructions.
Step 5: Start the Server
Launch the server with Wine:
wine HogWarpServer.exe
To run it in the background and capture logs:
wine HogWarpServer.exe > server.log 2>&1 &
The server will print output to stdout. Once running, it registers with the public HogWarp server list at presence.hogwarp.com and players can find it through the in-game overlay.
Verifying It Works
Watch the console output (or server.log) for a successful startup message. If you see Invalid API key, check your API_KEY value. If you see a .NET error, re-run winetricks dotnet7.
Your server data and saves will be stored in a Data/ subdirectory relative to HogWarpServer.exe.
