Installing Mods on Your ICARUS Dedicated Server

ICARUS does not use the Steam Workshop. Mods are distributed as .pak files and must be placed manually into a specific directory on the server.

Mod File Location

Place mod .pak files in the following directory:

Icarus\Content\Paks\mods\

Critical: The Folder Name Must Be Lowercase

The mods folder name must be lowercase: mods

This is the most common mistake when installing ICARUS mods. If the folder is named Mods (capital M), MODS, or any other variation, the server will not load the mods.

Correct:

Icarus\Content\Paks\mods\

Incorrect (will not work):

Icarus\Content\Paks\Mods\ ← Capital M — mods will NOT load
Icarus\Content\Paks\MODS\ ← All caps — mods will NOT load

If the mods folder does not exist, create it manually with the exact name mods (all lowercase).

Installing a Mod

  1. Download the mod .pak file from the mod distribution source (mod author's website, Nexus Mods, etc.)
  2. Connect to your server via SFTP or your control panel's file manager
  3. Navigate to Icarus\Content\Paks\
  4. If the mods folder does not exist, create it (lowercase mods)
  5. Upload the .pak file into the mods folder
  6. Restart the server

Multiple Mods

You can install multiple mods by placing multiple .pak files in the mods folder:

Icarus\Content\Paks\mods\
├── SomeMod.pak
├── AnotherMod.pak
└── ThirdMod.pak

Client-Side Requirement

Most ICARUS mods must also be installed on each player's client. Players need to place the same .pak file in their local ICARUS installation directory:

Steam\steamapps\common\Icarus\Content\Paks\mods\

Remind your players to install matching mod files, or they may not be able to connect or may experience errors.

Removing a Mod

To remove a mod, delete its .pak file from the mods folder and restart the server. If the mod was previously required for players to connect, they will also need to remove it from their clients.

Troubleshooting: Mods Not Loading

If mods are not loading, check the following:

  1. Folder name — Is the folder named mods (lowercase)?
  2. File extension — Confirm the file ends in .pak
  3. Server restart — Did you restart the server after adding the files?
  4. Client mismatch — Does the player also have the mod installed client-side?
