ICARUS Dedicated Server Port Forwarding
Learn which ports ICARUS requires and how to open them so players can connect to your dedicated server.
ICARUS Dedicated Server Port Forwarding
ICARUS requires two UDP ports to be open for players to connect and for your server to appear in the Steam server browser.
Required Ports
| Port | Protocol | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 17777 | UDP | Game traffic (player connections) |
| 27015 | UDP | Steam query port (server browser) |
Both ports must be open in your firewall and, if applicable, forwarded through your router. If either port is blocked, players will not be able to join even if the server shows in the browser.
Symptoms of Blocked Ports
- UDP 17777 blocked: Server may appear in the Steam browser, but players receive a connection timeout when attempting to join.
- UDP 27015 blocked: Server does not appear in the Steam server browser at all, or shows but with no player/ping information.
Opening Ports on Linux (iptables)
If your DustBowl.Games server uses iptables, run the following commands to open the required ports:
iptables -A INPUT -p udp --dport 17777 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A INPUT -p udp --dport 27015 -j ACCEPT
To make these rules persistent across reboots:
iptables-save > /etc/iptables/rules.v4
Opening Ports on Linux (ufw)
If your server uses UFW (Uncomplicated Firewall):
ufw allow 17777/udp
ufw allow 27015/udp
ufw reload
Verifying Ports Are Open
After opening ports, you can verify them with netstat once the server is running:
netstat -anupl | grep -E '17777|27015'
You should see both ports listed with a LISTEN or 0.0.0.0:* state.
Home Server / Router Port Forwarding
If you are hosting on a home connection, you will also need to forward these ports in your router's admin panel. The exact steps vary by router brand, but generally:
- Log in to your router admin panel (typically
192.168.1.1or192.168.0.1) - Navigate to Port Forwarding or Virtual Servers
- Add a rule for UDP 17777 pointing to your server's local IP
- Add a rule for UDP 27015 pointing to your server's local IP
- Save and apply
DustBowl.Games Managed Servers
If your server is hosted with DustBowl.Games, port management is handled through your control panel. Contact support if you need additional ports opened.
