Installing Your ICARUS Dedicated Server

ICARUS is a session-based survival game by RocketWerkz. The dedicated server software lets you host persistent prospect sessions that players can join without the host needing to be in-game.

Prerequisites

  • A DustBowl.Games server with at least 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended)
  • SteamCMD installed on the server
  • Ports UDP 17777 and UDP 27015 open in your firewall

Step 1: Download the Server Files via SteamCMD

The ICARUS dedicated server App ID on Steam is 2089300 (note: this is different from the game itself, which is 1149460).

Run the following SteamCMD command to download the server:

steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2089300 validate +quit

SteamCMD will download all required files to the installation directory. This may take several minutes depending on your connection speed.

Step 2: Locate the Server Binary

Once the download completes, the server executable is:

IcarusServer-Win64-Shipping.exe

On Linux, the ICARUS server binary is Windows-only and must be run through Wine:

wine64 IcarusServer-Win64-Shipping.exe -SteamServerName="My ICARUS Server" -log

If you are using DustBowl.Games' WISP panel, we provide a Pterodactyl egg that handles Wine automatically — you do not need to configure Wine yourself. The official egg is available at: https://eggs.pterodactyl.io/egg/games-icarus-dedicated/

Step 3: First Launch

Run the server with the -log flag to get console output:

wine64 IcarusServer-Win64-Shipping.exe -SteamServerName="My ICARUS Server" -log

On first launch, the server will generate its default configuration files, including ServerSettings.ini.

Step 4: Verify the Server is Running

After launch, check that the server is listening on the correct ports:

  • UDP 17777 — game traffic
  • UDP 27015 — Steam query port

You can verify in the Steam server browser by searching for your server name.

Configuration

After installation, your primary configuration file will be located at:

Icarus\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\ServerSettings.ini

See Configuring Your ICARUS Dedicated Server for full details on available settings.

Updating the Server

To update ICARUS, re-run the same SteamCMD command:

steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2089300 validate +quit

See Updating Your ICARUS Dedicated Server for a full update guide.
