Updating Your ICARUS Dedicated Server

When RocketWerkz releases an ICARUS update, you need to update your dedicated server to match. Players running the latest client version will not be able to connect to an outdated server.

Update Command

Run the following SteamCMD command to update the server:

steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2089300 validate +quit
  • 2089300 is the ICARUS dedicated server App ID (not the game)
  • validate ensures all files are checked for integrity and re-downloaded if corrupted
  • The server must be stopped before running this command

Step-by-Step Update Process

  1. Stop the server — shut down the ICARUS server process before updating
  2. Run the SteamCMD update command (see above)
  3. Wait for the download to complete — SteamCMD will display progress
  4. Restart the server — launch with your normal startup command

Checking the Current Server Version

ICARUS does not have a built-in version display command. The best way to verify your server version is to check the SteamCMD output during an update — if Steam reports "No update required", your server is already on the latest version.

Alternatively, check the server log file after launch for version information.

Automating Updates

If you want to run automatic updates before each server start, you can create a startup script that runs SteamCMD before launching the server:

#!/bin/bash
# Update ICARUS server
steamcmd +login anonymous +app_update 2089300 validate +quit

# Start the server
wine64 /path/to/IcarusServer-Win64-Shipping.exe -SteamServerName="My ICARUS Server" -log

If you are using DustBowl.Games' WISP panel, the panel can be configured to run update commands before server startup.

Preserving Your Configuration and Saves

SteamCMD's app_update command updates only the game server binary files. Your configuration and save data in Icarus\Saved\ are not affected by updates.

However, it is good practice to back up your server before updating in case something goes wrong:

cp -r /path/to/Icarus/Saved /path/to/backup/Saved_backup_$(date +%Y%m%d)

See Backing Up and Restoring Your ICARUS Server for a full backup guide.

Post-Update Compatibility

After a major ICARUS update, check whether:

  • Your ServerSettings.ini has any new available options (check patch notes)
  • Any installed mods are compatible with the new version (mod authors typically release updates alongside game patches)
  • Players need to update their clients to the same version
