How to Set Up Admin Permissions on Your Insurgency Sandstorm Server
Grant yourself and your trusted players admin access by adding Steam64 IDs to Admins.txt — here's exactly how to do it.
How Admin Permissions Work
Insurgency Sandstorm uses a plain text file — Admins.txt — to grant admin privileges. Any Steam64 ID listed in that file gets access to the full suite of in-game admin commands. There are no permission tiers; it's all-or-nothing.
The file lives at:
Insurgency/Config/Server/Admins.txt
If the file doesn't exist, create it. The Server folder may also need to be created if this is a fresh install.
Adding Admins
Open Admins.txt and add one Steam64 ID per line:
76561198012345678
76561198087654321
76561197990123456
That's the entire format. No names, no labels — just the IDs. Save the file and restart your server for the changes to take effect.
Finding a Steam64 ID
Steam64 IDs are 17-digit numbers that uniquely identify a Steam account. A few ways to find one:
- Your own ID: Visit steamidfinder.com and enter your Steam profile URL or custom URL.
- Another player's ID: Ask them for their profile URL and run it through the same site, or check your server logs — the Steam64 ID is logged when a player connects.
- In-game: Open the scoreboard and look at player details (varies by UI mod, but the ID is usually visible).
Steam profile URLs look like https://steamcommunity.com/id/yourname/ or https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198012345678/. The second format already contains the Steam64 ID directly.
Using Admin Commands In-Game
Once you're listed in Admins.txt and on your server, you can access admin commands two ways:
- Pause menu — open the pause menu and look for the Admin section.
- Console — press
~(tilde) to open the console and type commands directly.
Useful Admin Commands
AdminKickPlayer "PlayerName"
AdminBanPlayer "PlayerName"
AdminNextMap
AdminRestartMap
AdminSetMaxPlayers 12
AdminChangeMap "Farmhouse?Scenario=Scenario_Farmhouse_Checkpoint_Security"
Command notes:
- Player names with spaces must be wrapped in quotes.
AdminBanPlayeradds the player's Steam64 ID toBanned.txtautomatically.AdminSetMaxPlayerstakes effect immediately without a restart.- Map change commands use the same format as your map cycle entries.
Removing an Admin
Remove their Steam64 ID from Admins.txt, save the file, and restart the server. There's no live reload — the restart is required.
