In-Game Admin Commands
If you're in-game and listed in Admins.txt, you can kick or ban players directly from the console. Press ~ to open it.
Kick a Player
AdminKickPlayer "PlayerName"
This immediately removes the player from the server. They can rejoin — a kick is not a ban.
Ban a Player
AdminBanPlayer "PlayerName"
This kicks the player and adds their Steam64 ID to Banned.txt. They cannot rejoin until you manually remove the entry.
Player names with spaces must be in quotes. If the name doesn't match exactly (including capitalisation), the command won't find the player. If you're having trouble with names, use RCON to ban by Steam64 ID instead — see How to Set Up RCON on Your Insurgency Sandstorm Server.
Where Bans Are Stored
Bans are written to:
Insurgency/Config/Server/Banned.txt
Each line is a Steam64 ID:
76561198012345678
76561198087654321
The server reads this file continuously — changes take effect without a restart. You can add Steam64 IDs manually to pre-emptively ban someone who hasn't connected yet.
How to Unban a Player
- Open
Banned.txtin the file manager. - Find and delete the line containing their Steam64 ID.
- Save the file.
No restart needed. The player can reconnect immediately.
Finding a Player's Steam64 ID
From the server logs: When a player connects, their Steam64 ID is logged. Search the latest log file for their in-game name and you'll find the associated ID on the same or adjacent line. Logs are in:
Insurgency/Saved/Logs/
From in-game: The scoreboard sometimes shows Steam profile links depending on your UI setup.
From steamidfinder.com: If you have their Steam profile URL, paste it at steamidfinder.com to convert it to a Steam64 ID.
Banning via RCON
If you're managing your server remotely, RCON lets you ban players without being in-game. Once connected to your RCON port:
banid 76561198012345678
kickid 76561198012345678
banid adds the ID to Banned.txt and disconnects the player. kickid disconnects without banning. This approach is more reliable than name-based commands because Steam64 IDs never change.
