Necesse Server Admin Management
How to assign admin permissions in Necesse, grant owner status at launch, and use in-game admin commands — including the irreversible consequences of enabling cheats.
Permission Levels
Necesse uses a four-tier permission system:
| Level | Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | User | Default level for all connecting players |
| 1 | Moderator | Can kick players and manage basic server functions |
| 2 | Admin | Full game control including time, items, and teleport |
| 3 | Owner | Full server control including stopping the server and managing permissions |
Setting the Owner at Launch
Grant yourself Owner-level permissions by passing your in-game username with the -owner argument at startup:
./StartServer-nogui.sh -world MySave -owner YourName
Only one owner is set at launch via this argument. Additional owners or other permission levels are granted in-game with /permissions set.
Granting Permissions In-Game
To promote a player, they must be online when you run the command:
/permissions set PlayerName moderator
/permissions set PlayerName admin
/permissions set PlayerName owner
To list all players and their current permission levels:
/permissions list

Cheat Warning — Irreversible
Enabling cheats (using
/give,/tp,/time) is permanent and irreversible. Any character that is on the world when cheats are used will be permanently flagged as having used cheats. This flag cannot be removed. Do not use cheat commands on live servers if character integrity matters to your players.
