How to Set Up a No More Room in Hell Dedicated Server
Install a NMRiH dedicated server with SteamCMD using AppID 317670, generate a GSLT token, and launch the server on Windows or Linux.
Setting Up a No More Room in Hell Dedicated Server
No More Room in Hell (NMRiH 1) runs on Valve's Source engine via srcds. The server AppID is 317670 — this is separate from the client AppID. Installing with the wrong AppID will pull down the wrong files.
Download SteamCMD
Grab SteamCMD from Valve's official CDN:
- Linux: https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steamcmd_linux.tar.gz
- Windows: https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steamcmd.zip
Extract to a directory you own, e.g. /home/steam/steamcmd/ on Linux or C:\steamcmd\ on Windows.
Install the Server Files
Linux:
./steamcmd.sh +force_install_dir /home/steam/nmrih-server \
+login anonymous \
+app_update 317670 validate \
+quit
Windows:
steamcmd.exe +force_install_dir "C:\nmrih-server" ^
+login anonymous ^
+app_update 317670 validate ^
+quit
The validate flag checksums every file against Steam's depots — always use it on first install and when troubleshooting corruption.
Generate a Game Server Login Token (GSLT)
NMRiH requires a GSLT for the server to appear in the in-game server browser. Without one, the server runs but is not listed publicly.
- Go to https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers
- Log in with your Steam account
- Enter App ID 224260 (the client game AppID, not 317670)
- Generate the token and copy it
Tokens are tied to your Steam account. If you get banned, all your tokens are revoked. Do not share tokens.
Launch the Server
Windows:
srcds.exe -console -game nmrih -maxplayers 8 +map nmo_broadway +sv_setsteamaccount YOUR_TOKEN
Linux:
./srcds_run -console -game nmrih -maxplayers 8 +map nmo_broadway -autoupdate +sv_setsteamaccount YOUR_TOKEN
Key flags:
-game nmrih— tells SRCDS to load No More Room in Hell-maxplayers 8— NMRiH supports up to 8 players per server+map nmo_broadway— starting map; use any valid map name-autoupdate— Linux only; restarts srcds_run with updated files when Steam pushes an update+sv_setsteamaccount— your GSLT token
Connecting to the Server
Players can find the server via the in-game server browser after GSLT is active. Direct connection: open the console in-game and type connect YOUR_SERVER_IP:27015.
Keeping the Server Updated
Re-run the SteamCMD app_update 317670 validate command after any NMRiH update. On Linux, srcds_run with -autoupdate handles this automatically on restart.
