NMRiH Server Troubleshooting

Most NMRiH server issues fall into a small set of categories: GSLT problems, firewall misconfigurations, missing Linux libraries, or corrupt server files. Start with the server console output — it usually tells you exactly what failed.

Server Not Appearing in the Server Browser

Most likely cause: missing or expired GSLT token

NMRiH requires a valid Game Server Login Token to appear in the in-game browser. Without it, the server runs but is not listed publicly.

Check the console output at startup:

GSLT is valid ← token accepted; server will be listed
GSLT login failed ← invalid or expired token

If the token is expired or invalid:

  1. Go to https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers
  2. Regenerate a new token using App ID 224260
  3. Update sv_setsteamaccount in your launch command or server.cfg

Secondary cause: UDP 27015 not forwarded

The server browser communicates via UDP 27015. If this port is not open inbound on your router and firewall, Steam cannot discover the server. Verify UDP 27015 is open — see the port forwarding guide.

Cannot Connect to the Server

Check sv_lan in server.cfg:

sv_lan 0 ← must be 0 for internet servers

If sv_lan 1 is set, the server is invisible to the public browser and rejects connections from non-LAN IPs.

Verify the GSLT is valid — an invalid token can also cause connection failures.

Check that UDP 27015 is reachable from outside your network using a tool like a Source server query checker.

Server Crashes on Startup (Linux)

Most common cause: missing 32-bit libraries

SRCDS on Linux is a 32-bit binary. On 64-bit systems you must install lib32gcc1 (or the equivalent for your distro) or the process will exit immediately with no useful error.

# Debian / Ubuntu
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install lib32gcc-s1

# CentOS / RHEL
sudo yum install glibc.i686 libstdc++.i686

After installing, try starting the server again.

Secondary cause: corrupt server files

Re-run SteamCMD with validate to repair any corrupt or missing files:

./steamcmd.sh +login anonymous \
              +force_install_dir /home/steam/nmrih-server \
              +app_update 317670 validate \
              +quit

Server Crashes on Startup (Windows)

Run the validate step via SteamCMD to rule out file corruption:

steamcmd.exe +login anonymous +force_install_dir "C:\nmrih-server" +app_update 317670 validate +quit

If the crash persists, check nmrih/logs/ for a log file from the crash session and look for the last error line.

RCON Not Working

  1. Verify rcon_password is set in server.cfg and is not blank (blank disables RCON).
  2. Verify TCP 27015 is open on your firewall — RCON uses TCP, not UDP.
  3. Confirm you're connecting to the correct port and IP.
  4. If using a cloud VPS, check the provider's security group or firewall rules — cloud firewalls sit above the OS firewall and may block TCP 27015 even if UFW/iptables allows it.

Map Not Found on Load

Can't find map nmo_custommap, disconnecting

The .bsp file is not in nmrih/maps/. Confirm the file exists:

ls /home/steam/nmrih-server/nmrih/maps/nmo_custommap.bsp

If missing, download the map and place it in that directory. Also check that the name in mapcycle.txt matches the filename exactly (case-sensitive on Linux).

Players Get Stuck Downloading Custom Maps

The in-game download rate is very slow (~30 KB/s). Configure FastDL to distribute custom maps via HTTP:

// server.cfg
sv_downloadurl "http://yourcdn.example.com/nmrih/"
sv_allowdownload 1

The URL must point to a web server that mirrors your nmrih/ directory structure.
