Connecting with a Custom Domain
By default, users connect to your TeamSpeak voice server using an allocated IP address and UDP port (for example: 198.51.100.25:9987). Configuring a DNS SRV record allows your community to connect with a memorable vanity address (such as voice.yourcommunity.com or ts.clan.org) without needing to type a port number.
Step 1: Gather Your Connection Details on DustBowl Warden
- Log in to DustBowl Warden and select your TeamSpeak server.
- In the sidebar, navigate to the Network tab.
- Note your server's IP Address, Voice Port (UDP allocation, typically
9987), File Transfer Port (TCP30033), and ServerQuery Port (TCP10011). - Verify your server status is active in the Console tab.
Step 2: Generate DNS Records Automatically
The easiest method to generate exact DNS configurations is using our free TeamSpeak SRV Record Generator. Enter your domain name, IP address, and allocated voice port to receive copy-paste records for Cloudflare, AWS Route 53, Namecheap, and BIND.
Step 3: Configure DNS Records in Your Provider
Connecting via domain name requires two DNS records: an A Record pointing your subdomain to the server IP, and an SRV Record directing TeamSpeak clients to your allocated voice port.
1. Root A Record
- Type:
A - Name:
voice(or your chosen subdomain, e.g.ts) - IPv4 Address: Your DustBowl Warden server IP (e.g.
198.51.100.25) - Proxy Status (Cloudflare): DNS Only (Grey Cloud). Crucial: Cloudflare's HTTP proxy (Orange Cloud) blocks raw UDP audio packets and prevents voice connections.
2. TeamSpeak SRV Record
- Type:
SRV - Name:
voice(matches your A record subdomain) - Service:
_ts3 - Protocol:
_udp - Priority:
0 - Weight:
5 - Port: Your allocated voice port on DustBowl Warden (e.g.
9987or30015) - Target:
voice.yourdomain.com(your full subdomain) - TTL: Auto or 300 seconds
Step 4: Verify DNS Propagation
DNS propagation typically finishes within 5 to 15 minutes. Verify your records using standard terminal diagnostic utilities:
# Check SRV record resolution
dig SRV _ts3._udp.voice.yourdomain.com +short
# Windows Command Prompt / PowerShell
nslookup -type=SRV _ts3._udp.voice.yourdomain.com
The output should display your priority, weight, allocated port, and target hostname.
Step 5: Connect in TeamSpeak
- Open your TeamSpeak 3 or modern TeamSpeak client.
- In the connection dialog, enter
voice.yourdomain.cominto the Server Nickname or Address field. - Leave the port field blank. The client queries the
_ts3._udpSRV record automatically and connects to the correct port.
