How to Install AMX Mod X Plugins on Your CS 1.6 Server
Install .amxx plugin files, enable them in plugins.ini, load modules, and debug the common load failures that show up in the AMX logs.
How Plugins Work
AMX Mod X plugins are compiled .amxx files — you can't edit them directly, only install or remove them. Each plugin adds specific functionality: custom commands, game mode changes, admin tools, statistics, and so on.
Install a Plugin
Place the
.amxxfile in:cstrike/addons/amxmodx/plugins/Add the filename to:
cstrike/addons/amxmodx/configs/plugins.iniOne plugin per line:
admin.amxx admincmd.amxx adminhelp.amxx antiflood.amxx rockthevote.amxx noblock.amxxRestart the server.
Verify Plugin Load Status
In the server console:
amxx plugins
Output shows every plugin with its status:
[ 1] admin.amxx 1.10.0 Admin Base RUN
[ 2] admincmd.amxx 1.10.0 Admin Commands RUN
[ 3] badplugin.amxx 1.10.0 Some Plugin BAD LOAD
RUN = loaded and running. BAD LOAD = failed to load — check the AMX logs for the specific error.
Plugin Config Files
Many plugins auto-generate a config file in cstrike/addons/amxmodx/configs/ on first run. For example, a plugin named myplugin.amxx might create myplugin.cfg. Edit these files to configure the plugin's behavior — you don't need to recompile anything.
Modules
Some plugins depend on AMX modules (.so files) for extended functionality like database access, regex, or Sockets. Modules live in:
cstrike/addons/amxmodx/modules/
And are declared in:
cstrike/addons/amxmodx/configs/modules.ini
Enable a module by uncommenting or adding its line. Example:
;mysql_amxx_i386.so // uncomment to enable MySQL support
If a plugin requires a module that isn't loaded, the plugin fails with a log entry like [AMXX] Module not found: mysql.
Common Load Errors
[AMXX] Module not found: mysql
The plugin requires the MySQL module. Install the AMXX extras package from amxmodx.org, or if you just need this one module, download it separately. Then add it to modules.ini and restart.
[AMXX] Plugin is not compatible
Version mismatch. The plugin was compiled for a different version of AMX Mod X. Either update AMX or find a version of the plugin compiled for your AMX version. Most modern plugins target AMX 1.8.x or 1.9.x — mixing versions causes this.
Plugin shows as BAD LOAD with no module error
Open cstrike/addons/amxmodx/logs/ and look at today's log file. The specific error will be there. Common causes: missing dependency, compile target mismatch, or a scripting error in the plugin itself.
Plugin loads but commands don't work Check that the admin running the command has the required access flags. AMX plugins define which flags grant access to their commands. See the plugin documentation or source for the required flag.
Popular CS 1.6 Plugins
superlogs_cs.amxx // enhanced kill logging for HLStatsX
noblock.amxx // removes player collision (popular on public servers)
statsme.amxx // shows per-session kill/death stats at round end
rockthevote.amxx // players can vote for map change
parachute.amxx // slow fall when holding use key
deathrun.amxx // deathrun game mode
redie.amxx // dead players can spectate freely
Disabling a Plugin Without Removing It
Comment out the line in plugins.ini with a semicolon:
;noblock.amxx
Run amxx_reload in console to apply without restart.
