Create a Game Server Login Token (GSLT) for CS2
A GSLT makes your CS2 server visible in the community server browser. Step-by-step guide to generating a token on Steam and adding it to your server panel. Covers token limits, expiry, and common mistakes.
What Is a GSLT?
A Game Server Login Token (GSLT) is a Steam-issued credential that links your CS2 dedicated server to a Steam account. Without a GSLT, your server will not appear in the CS2 community server browser (though direct-IP connections still work).
Valve is progressively enforcing GSLT requirements — the same way they did for CS:GO — so adding one now is strongly recommended.
Step 1: Generate a Token on Steam
- Log into the Steam account you want to associate with the server
- Navigate to the Steam Game Server Account Management page
- Scroll to the Create a new game server account section
- Enter App ID
730(CS2's Steam App ID) - Optionally enter a memo (e.g. "My DustBowl CS2 Server") to identify it later
- Click Create
Steam will display your Game Server Login Token (a long alphanumeric string). Copy it — you won't be shown it again on the same page (you can retrieve it by visiting the management page again).
Step 2: Add the Token to Your Server
Using AMP (CubeCoders)
- Open your AMP panel and navigate to your CS2 instance
- Go to the Configuration section
- Find Steam Game Server Login Token and paste your token
- Restart the server from the Status tab
Using WISP / Pterodactyl
- Open WISP and go to your CS2 server
- Click Startup in the top menu
- Find the GSLT startup variable and paste your token
- Restart the server from the console tab
After the reboot your server authenticates with Steam and appears in the community server browser within a few minutes.
Important Rules
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| One token per server | A GSLT can only be used on one server at a time. Running two servers requires two tokens (two Steam accounts or two tokens on the same account). |
| Tokens expire | Tokens expire if unused for 5 weeks. Reconnect the server before that to reset the timer. |
| Bans travel with the account | If Steam bans the account tied to a GSLT (e.g. for running forbidden plugins), that account cannot create new tokens. |
| Valve ToS violations | Plugins that manipulate inventories or ranks can result in account-level bans. See Weapon & Skins Plugin for details. |
