CS2 Weapon & Skins Plugin (!ws)
Weapon skin plugins let players apply custom skins on your CS2 server — but Valve explicitly prohibits them and violations can get your GSLT and Steam account banned. Read the risks before installing.
Read This Before Installing
Valve bans this. Specifically: plugins that let players display skins, knives, or gloves they don't own in their Steam inventory violate Valve's server rules. Running them on a public server puts your GSLT and Steam account at risk.
What can happen:
- Your GSLT gets revoked — server drops from the community browser
- The Steam account tied to the GSLT loses the ability to create new tokens
- Steam may block your phone number from registering new accounts
- VAC or game bans in serious cases
Enforcement is real and ongoing. Run skin plugins only on private, invite-only servers where the GSLT is expendable — and even then, understand you're violating Valve's rules.
Why People Install Skin Plugins Anyway
Despite the risks, skin plugins are popular on private scrimmage and practice servers where:
- Players want to test the feel of specific knife skins
- The server is private and not listed in the community browser
- The server owner doesn't rely on the GSLT for visibility
The Plugin: CS2 WeaponPaints
The most commonly used weapon skin plugin for CS2 is CS2 WeaponPaints. It allows players to apply skins, gloves, and knife models using the !ws (weapon skin) chat command.
Requirements:
- CounterStrikeSharp installed — see CS2 Plugins guide
- The WeaponPaints plugin from the GitHub repository
Installation:
- Make sure CounterStrikeSharp is running — see CS2 Plugins guide
- Download the latest WeaponPaints release ZIP from GitHub
- Upload the plugin folder to
addons/counterstrikesharp/plugins/ - Restart the server
Performance note: Skin plugins add overhead to each player's connection. You may see slightly increased server CPU usage.
Alternatives (No ToS Risk)
- Practice mode with default skins — doesn't affect gameplay
- Community skin review — players can preview skins in the Steam marketplace without needing them server-side
- If you want skins for official play, simply own the skins in your Steam inventory — they apply automatically
