Configuring Helicopter Crashes and Dynamic Events
Control helicrash frequency, infected hordes, and vehicle spawns by editing events.xml and cfgeventspawns.xml in your mission PBO.
Overview
Dynamic events are scheduled world events that include helicopter crashes, infected waves, and vehicle spawns. They are configured through two files inside your mission PBO: cfgeventspawns.xml (spawn locations and coordinates) and db/events.xml (event types, timing, and quantities). Tuning these files lets you increase helicrash frequency, add new spawn locations, or disable specific event types.
File Locations
Both files are inside the mission PBO. Extract with pboProject before editing:
missionFiles/dayzOffline.chernarusplus/cfgeventspawns.xml— spawn point coordinates per event typemissionFiles/dayzOffline.chernarusplus/db/events.xml— event definitions, timing, and nominal counts
events.xml Structure

<lifetime>3600</lifetime>
<restock>0</restock>

Key Fields
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
nominal |
Target number of active events on the map simultaneously |
min |
Minimum count before new events are triggered |
max |
Hard cap on simultaneous events |
lifetime |
Seconds before the event despawns |
restock |
Restock delay in seconds (0 = immediate respawn when below min) |
safeDistance |
Minimum meters from a player before the event can spawn |
Default Event Types
HeliCrash/HeliCrashDefault— downed helicopter with military lootCentralEvent— infected spawn waves near populated areasVehicleSpawn— abandoned vehicles across the map
Increasing Helicrash Frequency
The default helicrash interval is effectively 3600–5400 seconds (1–1.5 hours) between crashes appearing. To double the crash rate:
<event name="HeliCrash">
<nominal>10</nominal>
<min>6</min>
<max>12</max>
<lifetime>3600</lifetime>
<restock>0</restock>
<safeDistance>800</safeDistance>
Setting nominal higher means more active crashes exist at once. Setting safeDistance lower allows crashes to spawn nearer to players.
Adding Custom Spawn Locations
Spawn coordinates are defined in cfgeventspawns.xml:
<eventposdef name="HeliCrash">
<pos x="4521.0" y="0.0" z="6830.0" a="0"/>
<pos x="7812.5" y="0.0" z="9103.2" a="0"/>
</eventposdef>
x and z are map coordinates (use DayZ map tools like iZurvive to find coordinates). a is the rotation angle. Add as many <pos> entries as you want — the server selects from them randomly.
Disabling an Event Type
Set nominal, min, and max all to 0:
<event name="CentralEvent">
<nominal>0</nominal>
<min>0</min>
<max>0</max>
Vehicle Spawn Events
Vehicle events follow the same structure. To increase abandoned vehicles:
<event name="VehicleSpawn">
<nominal>20</nominal>
<min>10</min>
<max>25</max>
<lifetime>86400</lifetime>
A lifetime of 86400 (24 hours) means vehicles persist for a full day before despawning if untouched.
Applying Changes
- Stop the server
- Extract mission PBO with pboProject
- Edit
db/events.xmland/orcfgeventspawns.xml - Repack the PBO
- Replace in
missionFiles/ - Start the server
Event changes require a full server restart. There is no hot-reload for event configuration.
Troubleshooting
- No helicrashes spawning: Verify
cfgeventspawns.xmlhas valid coordinates forHeliCrash. If the spawn pool is empty, the event engine skips the event silently. - Crashes spawning too close to spawn zones: Increase
safeDistanceto1500or higher. - Event loot is empty: Check
types.xmlforHeliCrashDefaultloot class entries — the event spawns correctly but loot quantities may be zeroed out.
