Password Protecting Your ICARUS Server
How to add a join password to your ICARUS dedicated server to restrict access to invited players only.
Password Protecting Your ICARUS Server
You can restrict access to your ICARUS dedicated server by setting a join password. Players will be required to enter the password before connecting.
Setting a Join Password
Open the server configuration file:
Icarus\Saved\Config\WindowsServer\ServerSettings.ini
Set the JoinPassword field:
JoinPassword=YourJoinPasswordHere
Save the file and restart the server for the change to take effect.
Removing the Password
To make the server public again, leave the JoinPassword field blank:
JoinPassword=
Restart the server after saving.
How Players Enter the Password
When a player attempts to join a password-protected server, they will be prompted to enter the join password before the connection is established. This prompt appears automatically in the ICARUS client.
Password Tips
- Use a password that is easy to share with your group but not easily guessed
- Avoid using the same password as your admin password (
AdminPassword) - Passwords are stored in plain text in
ServerSettings.ini, so do not reuse passwords from other services
Admin Password vs. Join Password
ICARUS has two separate password fields:
| Setting | Purpose |
|---|---|
JoinPassword |
Required to connect to the server (access control) |
AdminPassword |
Used in-game to gain admin privileges (/AdminLogin) |
These are independent — you can have a public server (no JoinPassword) that still requires a password to use admin commands, or a private server where all players have admin access.
