Prerequisites
Necesse requires 32-bit compatibility libraries. Install them before proceeding:
Debian / Ubuntu:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y lib32gcc1 lib32gcc-s1
RHEL / Fedora / CentOS:
sudo dnf install -y glibc.i686 libstdc++.i686
Create a Dedicated User
Run the server as a non-root user:
sudo useradd -m -s /bin/bash necesse
sudo su - necesse
All subsequent commands in this guide run as the necesse user.
Install SteamCMD
mkdir -p ~/Steam && cd ~/Steam
curl -sqL "https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/client/installer/steamcmd_linux.tar.gz" | tar zxvf -
Install the Necesse Dedicated Server
AppID is 1169370. Anonymous login is supported:
~/Steam/steamcmd.sh +login anonymous +app_update 1169370 +quit
The server installs to:
/home/necesse/Steam/steamapps/common/Necesse Dedicated Server/
Starting the Server
cd "/home/necesse/Steam/steamapps/common/Necesse Dedicated Server/"
./StartServer-nogui.sh -world MySave -port 14159 -slots 10
Systemd Service
Create a service file to run the server automatically and restart it on failure:
sudo nano /etc/systemd/system/necesse.service
Paste the following:
[Unit]
Description=Necesse Dedicated Server
After=network.target
[Service]
PrivateTmp=true
Type=simple
User=necesse
WorkingDirectory=/home/necesse/Steam/steamapps/common/Necesse Dedicated Server/
ExecStart=/bin/sh -c "exec /home/necesse/Steam/steamapps/common/Necesse\ Dedicated\ Server/StartServer-nogui.sh -world YourWorldName"
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
Enable and start the service:
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable necesse
sudo systemctl start necesse
sudo systemctl status necesse
File Paths
| Resource | Path |
|---|---|
| Config | ~/.config/Necesse/cfg/server.cfg |
| Saves | ~/.config/Necesse/saves/ |
| Logs | ~/.config/Necesse/logs/ |
Keeping the Server Updated
Re-run the SteamCMD update command to pull the latest version. Stop the server first:
sudo systemctl stop necesse
~/Steam/steamcmd.sh +login anonymous +app_update 1169370 +quit
sudo systemctl start necesse
