Necesse Server Port Forwarding

Port forwarding requirements for a Necesse dedicated server, including firewall configuration on Linux and Windows, and running multiple servers.

Required Ports

Port Protocol Purpose
14159 UDP Game traffic — all client connections

Only one port is required. Necesse uses UDP exclusively for client connections. There is no separate query port or TCP requirement.

Changing the Default Port

The port can be changed two ways:

Via launch argument (recommended):

StartServer-nogui.sh -world MySave -port 14160

Via server.cfg:

SERVER = {
  port = 14160,
  ...
}

Note that server.cfg is overwritten on each startup from launch arguments. Set the port via the -port argument to ensure it persists across restarts.

Firewall Configuration

Linux — UFW

sudo ufw allow 14159/udp
sudo ufw reload

Linux — firewalld

sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-port=14159/udp
sudo firewall-cmd --reload

Windows Firewall

Open an elevated PowerShell prompt:

New-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "Necesse Server" `
  -Direction Inbound -Protocol UDP -LocalPort 14159 `
  -Action Allow

Or use the GUI: Windows Defender Firewall → Advanced Settings → Inbound Rules → New Rule → Port → UDP → 14159.

Running Multiple Servers

Each server instance requires its own unique port. Increment by one for each additional instance:

Instance Port
Server 1 14159
Server 2 14160
Server 3 14161

Start each with a different -port and -world argument:

./StartServer-nogui.sh -world World1 -port 14159
./StartServer-nogui.sh -world World2 -port 14160

Forward each port separately in your router and firewall.
