How to Install Mods on Your Palworld Server
Install UE4SS-based mods on your Palworld server using RE-UE4SS. Covers server-side and client-side installation, version matching requirements, and why mods are not supported on Linux.
Overview
Palworld mods use UE4SS (Unreal Engine 4 Scripting System) as their framework. Your server needs RE-UE4SS enabled to load them.
Windows servers only. Mods via UE4SS are not supported on Linux server instances. If you're running a Linux server and want mod support, switching to a Windows server instance is required.
Server-Side Installation
Step 1: Enable RE-UE4SS
In your AMP panel, open your Palworld server's configuration:
- Go to Mods & Plugins (or the Modules tab in AMP)
- Enable RE-UE4SS
- Save and reboot
Step 2: Download and Upload Your Mod
- Find a mod compatible with your Palworld version (check Nexus Mods or Thunderstore)
- Download the mod — it will typically come as a
.zip - Extract the contents
- In your control panel's File Manager, navigate to the mod upload directory (usually under
Pal/Binaries/Win64/or the mod's specified path) - Upload the extracted mod files
- Stop and restart the server
Always read the mod's installation instructions — some mods require files in specific folders or have additional dependencies.
Client-Side Installation
Players also need UE4SS installed on their local game to use server-side mods (or to run client-only mods):
- Download the latest UE4SS release from the official GitHub
- In Steam, right-click Palworld → Manage → Browse local files
- Navigate to:
Pal\Binaries\Win64\ - Extract the UE4SS files into this directory
- Launch the game
Version Matching
Critical: The UE4SS version on the server and the client must match. Mismatched versions will cause crashes or mods failing to load.
When Palworld updates, UE4SS typically needs to update too. Check the RE-UE4SS GitHub for updated releases after major Palworld patches.
Troubleshooting
Server crashes after enabling a mod
- The mod may be incompatible with your current Palworld or UE4SS version
- Disable the mod and verify the UE4SS version matches the mod's requirements
Mod not loading
- Confirm RE-UE4SS is enabled in your panel
- Verify the mod files are in the correct directory
- Check the UE4SS log at
Pal/Binaries/Win64/ue4ss/Logs/for error messages
Players can't connect after mod install
- If the mod is server-side only, players may still need the client-side UE4SS installed
- Some mods require matching versions on both sides — check the mod documentation
