How to Update Your Palworld Server
Palworld servers update automatically within 30 minutes of a new release with in-game player warnings. How the update pipeline works, what happens to your saved data, and what to do if a mod breaks after a patch.
Automatic Updates
Palworld servers update automatically — nothing for you to do. When PocketPair ships a patch:
- Steam detection — Our infrastructure polls Steam for new Palworld releases every 15 minutes
- Update queued — Once detected, all Palworld servers get flagged for a reboot
- Players warned — Anyone connected gets an in-game broadcast with a short countdown before the reboot kicks in
- Reboot and update — The server restarts on the new version
Expect the whole process to complete within 30 minutes of a patch going live on Steam.
Your Save Data Is Safe
Updates don't touch your world or characters. World saves, Pals, base structures, and player progress all survive the restart intact — pick up right where you left off.
Staying Informed About Updates
Check these sources for patch notes before an update lands:
- Palworld Steam page — patch notes and update history
- PocketPair official Discord — developer announcements
After a Major Update: Check Your Mods
Large Palworld patches sometimes break UE4SS-based mods. After a major update:
- Check the mod's page (Nexus Mods / Thunderstore) for compatibility notes
- If the server crashes on startup after the update, disable all mods temporarily via the Mods & Plugins panel
- Test vanilla (no mods) — if stable, re-enable mods one at a time to find the incompatible one
- Check whether a new RE-UE4SS version is needed — UE5 engine updates often require a matching UE4SS update
Client Must Match Server Version
Players cannot connect to a server running a different Palworld version. After an update:
- Server updated, player hasn't → Player needs to update via Steam
- Player updated, server hasn't → Wait for the automatic update (within 30 min) or check your panel
