Generate and Use a TeamSpeak Admin Privilege Key

How to find the admin privilege key for your TeamSpeak 3 server in the wisp.gg panel, claim it from the TS3 client, and generate new tokens once the first is used.

What Is a Privilege Key?

When a TeamSpeak 3 server starts for the first time, it generates a Server Admin privilege key (also called an admin token). Whoever claims that key inside the TS3 client becomes the first Server Admin — with full permissions to change the server name, password, permissions, channels, everything.

You need to claim this key before you can configure anything on your server.

Step 1: Find the Initial Privilege Key (wisp.gg)

When your TeamSpeak server is first provisioned on wisp.gg, the admin token appears in the console log during startup.

  1. Log into your wisp.gg panel

  2. Open your TeamSpeak server

  3. Click the Console tab

  4. Look for a line near the top that says:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------
                          I M P O R T A N T
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
ServerAdmin privilege key created, please use it to gain
serveradmin rights for your virtualserver. please
also check the doc/token_guide.txt for details.

                  token=token=AAAAbbbbCCCCddddEEEEffffGGGGhhhh...
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

  5. Copy the token string (everything after token= — one long mix of letters, numbers, and symbols)

If you don't see the banner — the key may have already been claimed on a previous start. Go to Step 3 (Generate a New Key) instead.

Step 2: Claim the Key in TeamSpeak 3 Client

  1. Launch the TeamSpeak 3 client
  2. Connect to your server (use the IP:port from your wisp.gg Network tab, or your custom domain)
  3. Once connected, open the Permissions menu → Use Privilege Key
  4. Paste the token
  5. Click OK

You'll get a confirmation message, and a blue admin icon (crown/diamond) appears next to your name in the user list. You're now the Server Admin.

Step 3: Generate a New Admin Privilege Key

If the initial key was already claimed and you need to grant admin to someone else, you can generate new tokens from inside the client. You must already be a Server Admin to do this — the first key can only be used once.

  1. Connect to the server as an existing admin
  2. Click Permissions menu → Privilege Keys
  3. Click Create Token
  4. Pick a group:
    • Server Group → Server Admin for another full admin
    • Other server groups for lesser roles (Channel Admin, Moderator, etc. if you've set them up)
  5. Add an optional description (e.g. "Admin for co-owner")
  6. Click OK
  7. Copy the generated token and send it privately to the person who will claim it

They then follow Step 2 above to claim it.

Privilege Key Notes

  • One-time use — Each token can only be claimed once. After it's used, it disappears from the list.
  • No expiry by default — Tokens don't expire unless you set a custom expiry. If you generate a key and don't give it out, it sits there until someone claims it (or you delete it).
  • Revoke tokens you've generated — Same Privilege Keys menu → select the token → Delete. This prevents it from being claimed later.
  • Don't share server-admin keys publicly — Anyone with the token becomes a full admin. Treat them like passwords.

I Lost My Admin Access

If nobody on your server has admin anymore (for example, an old admin claimed the first key on a different TS3 identity that's been deleted), you can reset from the server side:

  1. Stop the TeamSpeak server in wisp.gg (Console tab → Stop)
  2. Go to the Files tab
  3. Rename or delete ts3server.sqlitedb — this wipes the server database (⚠️ also wipes channels and permissions; take a backup first if you care about those)
  4. Start the server back up
  5. A new initial privilege key appears in the console log — claim it as in Step 1–2

This is nuclear and loses custom channels and groups. If you'd rather preserve those, contact us on Discord and we can help reset just the admin token through direct DB access.
