Set a Password on Your TeamSpeak Server

How to set, change, or remove the password on your TeamSpeak 3 server. Password protection is configured from inside the TS3 client, not from your WISP panel — you need Server Admin rights first.

Overview

Fresh TeamSpeak 3 servers ship with the door wide open — no password, no gatekeeping. Anyone with your address can walk straight in. If you're running a community or clan server, lock it down.

Important: The password is configured from inside the TS3 client, not in your WISP panel. There's no password setting in your dashboard — you have to be connected to the server and have admin rights before you can change it.

Before You Start

You must hold Server Admin on the server before any of this works. Claim your admin privilege key first if you haven't — Generate and Use a TeamSpeak Admin Privilege Key.

Step 1: Get Your Server Address

In your WISP panel, open your TeamSpeak server and check the Network or Allocations tab. Grab the IP and voice port — it'll look something like 45.35.1.100:30015.

Step 2: Connect

  1. Open the TeamSpeak 3 client
  2. Go to Connections → Connect
  3. Enter your server's IP and port
  4. Set a nickname and hit Connect

Once you're in, your name in the user list will have a blue crown/diamond icon next to it if your Server Admin status is active.

Step 3: Open the Server Settings

At the top of the channel tree you'll see the server name — it sits above every channel. Right-click that entry and choose Edit Virtual Server.

A properties window opens. Stay on the General tab.

Step 4: Set the Password

  1. Locate the Password field
  2. Type your chosen password
  3. Click Apply, then OK

The change is instant. Anyone who tries to connect from this point will be prompted for the password before they can join.

To Remove a Password

Follow the same steps but clear the Password field and click Apply. No password means the server is open again.

Password Behavior Notes

  • Server admins bypass the password — once you've claimed the admin privilege key, the client stores your identity and you won't be prompted even if the server has a password set.
  • Passwords are server-wide, not per-channel. For channel-level passwords, right-click a channel instead and set a password on it.
  • Passwords are stored as a hash on the TS3 server — we can't recover a lost password, but you can always reset it through this flow (or by claiming the privilege key again in an emergency).

What if I Can't Log In as Admin?

If you've lost your admin access entirely and can't get in to change the password:

  1. Open your WISP panel and navigate to your TeamSpeak server
  2. Click the Console tab
  3. Restart the server — watch the startup output for the admin privilege key printed on first boot
  4. Claim it in the TS3 client via Permissions → Use Privilege Key

If the initial key was already used, you'll need to generate a new admin token. See Generate and Use a TeamSpeak Admin Privilege Key or hit us up on Discord.
