How to Kick and Ban Players on Your V Rising Server
Use in-game admin commands to kick or ban players on the fly, or edit banlist.txt directly to add pre-emptive bans before someone even joins.
Prerequisites
You need admin access before you can use kick and ban commands. If you haven't set that up yet, add your SteamID64 to adminlist.txt and restart the server first.
Kicking a Player
Kicking disconnects a player immediately but does not prevent them from rejoining. Use it for warnings or to clear a stuck connection.
- Open the admin console (press
`in-game) - Authenticate if you haven't already:
adminauth - Run:
kick [playerName]
Example:
kick TroubledPlayer
Player names are case-sensitive. If you're not sure of the exact name, run list first to see everyone currently connected along with their display names and SteamID64s.
Banning a Player
A ban persists across reconnects. The player's SteamID64 is written to banlist.txt automatically.
ban [playerName]
Example:
ban TroubledPlayer
The ban takes effect immediately — the player is kicked and cannot rejoin until unbanned.
Unbanning a Player
To unban someone, you need their SteamID64 (not their display name):
unban 76561198012345678
You can also unban by editing banlist.txt directly (see below).
Finding a Player's SteamID64
A few ways to get it:
- While they're online: Use
listin the admin console — it shows all connected players and their SteamID64s - From server logs: The server logs connection events with player names and SteamID64s — check the logs in your control panel
- External lookup: If you know their Steam profile URL or username, use steamid.io
Editing banlist.txt Directly
The ban list is stored at:
VRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/Settings/banlist.txt
You can add SteamID64s here before a player ever joins — useful for pre-emptive bans when you know a specific account is problematic.
Format: one SteamID64 per line, nothing else.
76561198012345678
76561198087654321
Changes to banlist.txt take effect on the next server restart. Bans issued in-game via the ban command are written to this file automatically and take effect immediately without a restart.
To unban someone by editing the file: stop the server, remove their SteamID64 from banlist.txt, save, and restart.
Notes on Display Names vs. SteamID64
The kick and ban commands accept display names as a convenience, but display names can change. Always record the SteamID64 of a banned player — it's the permanent identifier that the ban file actually uses. If a banned player changes their Steam display name, the ban still holds because it's tied to their SteamID64, not their name.
