How to Customize Game Rules and Difficulty on Your V Rising Server

ServerGameSettings.json controls everything from player damage and resource drops to castle decay and PvP rules. This guide covers the settings that matter most.

Where to Find the File

All gameplay settings live in:

VRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/Settings/ServerGameSettings.json

Stop your server before editing, validate the JSON before saving, and restart to apply changes. Invalid JSON will prevent the server from starting.

Player Settings

These float multipliers scale around 1.0 as the default/vanilla value. Higher means more, lower means less.

Setting Default What it does
BloodDrainModifier 1.0 How fast your blood pool drains
UnitAggroRadius 1.0 How far enemies detect you
PlayerDamageDealt 1.0 Damage players deal to enemies
PlayerReceiveDamageModifier 1.0 Damage players take from enemies
ResourceYieldModifier 1.0 Resources gained from harvesting
CarryCapacityModifier 1.0 Inventory carry weight
RunSpeedModifier 1.0 Player movement speed

Setting ResourceYieldModifier to 2.0 doubles all resource drops. Setting PlayerReceiveDamageModifier to 0.5 makes players take half damage — useful for casual servers.

Progression Settings

Setting Default What it does
ExpShareModifier 1.0 XP shared between nearby players
ExpDropModifier 1.0 XP gained from kills
ExpCurveExponent 1.0 How steeply XP requirements scale per level

Increasing ExpCurveExponent makes later levels harder to reach. Lowering ExpDropModifier slows overall progression.

Castle Settings

Setting Values What it does
CastleDamageMode 0, 1, 2 0 = off, 1 = always, 2 = time-restricted
CastleHeartDurabilityModifier float Castle Heart durability multiplier
CastleDecayRateModifier float How fast an abandoned castle decays

Set CastleDecayRateModifier to 0.0 on casual servers to prevent decay entirely — great for servers where players come and go infrequently.

PvP Settings

Setting Values What it does
PlayerInteractionMode 0, 1, 2 0 = PvE, 1 = full PvP, 2 = castle raids only
GuildSize integer Maximum players in a guild

See the dedicated PvP article for the full breakdown of raid timers and castle siege settings.

Day/Night Cycle

Setting What it does
DayCycleStartTime Starting time of day when a fresh world begins (0.0–1.0)
DayLength Length of the daytime phase in seconds
NightLength Length of the nighttime phase in seconds

The default day/night cycle is roughly 12 minutes each. Lowering DayLength makes days shorter, which means more night gameplay — and more danger for vampires who venture out during daylight.
