How to Enable and Configure PvP on Your V Rising Server
V Rising has multiple PvP modes — from full open-world PvP to time-restricted castle raiding. Here's how to configure each one and set up a raid weekend schedule.
PvP Modes Overview
V Rising doesn't have a single "enable PvP" switch. Instead, it has separate controls for player-vs-player combat and castle raiding, which you can combine to create the experience you want. All of these are set in ServerGameSettings.json.
PlayerInteractionMode
This controls whether players can directly attack each other:
| Value | Mode | What it means |
|---|---|---|
0 |
PvE | Players cannot damage each other at all |
1 |
Full PvP | Players can kill each other anywhere, at any time |
2 |
Restricted | PvP is limited — typically castle raiding during defined windows |
Full PvP (mode 1) is the most dangerous setting. Players can be killed anywhere — near spawn, in the open world, outside their own castles. If your community is small or mixed-experience, full PvP can drive away newer players quickly. Make sure your group is on board before enabling it.
{
"PlayerInteractionMode": 1
}
CastleDamageMode
This controls whether player castles can be damaged, independently of the PvP mode above:
| Value | Mode | What it means |
|---|---|---|
0 |
Off | Castles cannot be damaged by players |
1 |
Always | Castles can be attacked at any time |
2 |
Time-restricted | Castles can only be raided during configured time windows |
Time-restricted raiding (mode 2) is the most popular setting for organized PvP servers — it prevents the frustration of logging in to find your castle demolished while you were offline.
{
"CastleDamageMode": 2
}
Configuring Time-Restricted Raids
When CastleDamageMode is set to 2, you configure the raid window using the siege timer settings. These define start and end hours on a 24-hour clock:
{
"CastleDamageMode": 2,
"CastleSiegeWeaponHealthModifier": 1.0,
"SiegeWeaponHealthModifier": 1.0
}
Check your specific version's ServerGameSettings.json for the exact field names for siege start/end hours — they may be named CastleRaidTimeStart and CastleRaidTimeEnd or similar depending on your game version. Set them to 24-hour values (e.g., 18 for 6 PM, 22 for 10 PM).
Additional PvP Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
CastleRaidProtectionMode |
Controls how fresh castles are protected from raids |
VSPlayerWeaponCollision |
Whether projectiles from players can hit other players (friendly fire) |
AnnounceSiegeWeaponSpawn |
Broadcast a server-wide message when a siege weapon is placed |
GuildSize |
Maximum number of players in a guild (affects PvP team balance) |
AnnounceSiegeWeaponSpawn is recommended for most PvP servers — it gives defenders a heads-up and creates a more interesting siege dynamic.
The "Raid Weekend" Setup
A popular configuration for community servers: allow castle raiding only on weekends. This protects weekday progress while still enabling competitive raiding.
Example configuration:
{
"PlayerInteractionMode": 1,
"CastleDamageMode": 2,
"GuildSize": 4,
"AnnounceSiegeWeaponSpawn": true,
"VSPlayerWeaponCollision": true
}
Then set your siege timer start/end to cover Friday evening through Sunday evening in your community's timezone. Make sure to communicate the raid window clearly to your players — post it in your Discord or server description.
Recommended Starting Config by Server Type
Casual / PvE:
{
"PlayerInteractionMode": 0,
"CastleDamageMode": 0
}
Structured PvP with weekend raids:
{
"PlayerInteractionMode": 1,
"CastleDamageMode": 2,
"GuildSize": 4,
"AnnounceSiegeWeaponSpawn": true
}
Full hardcore PvP:
{
"PlayerInteractionMode": 1,
"CastleDamageMode": 1,
"GuildSize": 2,
"AnnounceSiegeWeaponSpawn": true,
"VSPlayerWeaponCollision": true
}
A Note on Full PvP Servers
With PlayerInteractionMode: 1, players can be attacked everywhere — including right next to spawn. New players joining a full PvP server can have a rough experience if they get repeatedly killed before they get established. Consider pairing full PvP with a new-player protection window if your game version supports it, or make sure your community's rules cover spawn camping behavior.
