How to Wipe Your V Rising Server
A full wipe deletes the world save so the server generates a fresh world on next start. Your config files stay intact — only player progress is reset.
What a Wipe Actually Does
Wiping a V Rising server means deleting the save folder for your world. The server generates a brand new world the next time it starts. All player progress — character levels, inventory, blood type unlocks, castle builds — is permanently gone.
What is not affected by a wipe:
ServerHostSettings.json(network settings, server name, ports)ServerGameSettings.json(game rules and difficulty)adminlist.txtandbanlist.txt
Your configuration survives. Only the world data is deleted.
Before You Wipe
Tell your players in advance. Wipes are irreversible. Give your community at least a few days of notice — ideally longer if it's an active server. Many communities announce wipes tied to major game updates or after a set number of weeks.
Take a backup first. Even if you're sure you want to wipe, having a copy of the old world costs nothing and gives you a rollback option if you change your mind.
How to Wipe
- Stop the server from your control panel
- Navigate to
VRisingServer_Data/StreamingAssets/Saves/v3/in your file manager - Locate the folder named after your world (this matches the
WorldNamefield inServerHostSettings.json) - Delete that folder entirely
- Start the server
The server will detect that no save exists for the configured world name and generate a new one from scratch. First startup after a wipe takes slightly longer than normal.
Changing the World Name (Optional)
If you want to make absolutely sure the server starts fresh — and to signal a clean slate to your community — change the WorldName in ServerHostSettings.json before restarting:
{
"WorldName": "Season2"
}
This is optional. Deleting the save folder is sufficient. But renaming the world is a clean way to mark a new season and avoids any possibility of the server accidentally loading a leftover partial save.
What About Partial Wipes?
V Rising does not support partial wipes officially. There is no built-in mechanism to reset player progression while keeping castle structures, or to wipe castles while keeping characters. Everything is stored together in the world save. If you want partial resets, you would need third-party tools or mods — that's outside the scope of what we support directly.
After the Wipe
On next server start, the server generates a new world using the current ServerGameSettings.json. This is a good time to review those settings and make any difficulty or rule adjustments before players start fresh.
